This article has me thinking about experiential learning in online learning. I recently spent the better part of a year writing a course for the US army on experiential learning in a train the trainer series of modules and from that curriculum development came the realization that learning truly does take place within the mind of the student and not in a lectures hall.

Students need to be given opportunities to make meaning through their experience, yet most online content I have seen is more or less the brain dump by a SME that students are asked to digest. Without the active learning component, the actual "doing," students do not make the learning their own. I would love to hear from others on how they have customized lessons that have encouraged experiential learning for online students. Please share! This topic is something I want to explore more deeply and would love to share on.

Is it expensive though to have someone develop all of the Flash technology to truely make it experiential?  I think we could put together a great team to develop fun interactive content for k-12 students with the right help.  I would love to be a part of this.  There is plenty of great content out there but not enough in a game like format that truly engages students in a way that makes them want to go on and try and try again until they master it.  Let's look at even the most simple comparison of Angry Birds.  We come back to it every time trying to beet the pigs no matter how many times we fail.  We do not give up but instead try to master the content yet in education often students just give up after the initial failure.  The content is not engagining enough to make them want to master it.  You can not tell me with the right people that we can not figure this out.  Count me in.
